As a fat Mosotho girl, I have always wanted to be like that Tyra Banks on TV shows. Unlike me, she is slim and has a flat tummy. I weighed 85kilograms and every time when I tested my Body Mass Index (BMI), I was always overweight for my height. The fear of being exposed to several illnesses for overweight people, such as sugar diabetes and high blood pressure began to evolve in my mind.
For most of my life, I’ve confronted mornings like facing a transport truck on a dark road. Eyes squeezed shut against increasingly blinding light, hoping it just won’t happen. People say, “I’m just not a morning person.” Me? More like a don’t-talk to me, don’t look at me, can’t move past the kitchen table before a cup of coffee person.
